walking....

Hubby and i have been dragging ourselves out of bed each morning this week and hitting the pavement by 6.20.....its been dark, frosty, cold and raining.....but we get to see the sun come up and are feeling good about it although we are falling asleep on the couch at night :)

today i really needed a sleep in so we decided to set out after lunch for a walk in the bush and follow the water race........something we used to do all the time epsecially with the kids and dogs.
thats one of the things i love living in this town, we live in suburbia but go 2 blocks and you are in the aussie bush.

we wanted to see if the native flowers had come out yet and we found quite a few...or rather hubby did, hes an old bushie and amazing at finding them and knowing what they are called.
its a bit early still and it wont be long before they are all in flower properly.

see this little unnassuming plant... its a Hakea...see the tiny white flowers on the bottom...

here...

this what it turns into, then dies....

hakea pods.....look like little bird heads.

and a sarsaparilla plant growing along the water race...

and some pretty little Bendigo wax flowers just starting to come out......

and my favorite...the native orchids are just starting to pop there heads out of the soil, in a couple of weeks and hopefully some sun they will be out properly...they are tiny about 15-20cms tall [6-8 "]

donkey orchids

greenhood orchid...

another type of greenhood...

and these carnivorous sundews that catch insects on their sticky leaves... we will go back in a couple of weeks when they are flowering....

there was a whole carpet of them...

we didnt see any wildlife but saw these wallaby bones..

and hubby reckons an echidna has been digging out this hole looking for ants....

and lastly .....

so the walking and change of diet is paying off...i bought a cheap pair of jeans today as my others are falling off me...ive dropped 2 sizes[since i cut sugar and now wheat out of my diet] and no longer buy in the plus size section ...but really it was about feeling better and getting healthy, which i am....and dragging my hubby along with me :)

Lovely photos Jen. That Hakea looks prehistoric! I love the little wax flowers the best. I am thinking about this sugarless diet. Says me currently cooking a slice. Seriously considering it. Maybe I'll look it up on the computer!

What an interesting walk - I love bush walks. The Bendigo wax flower is so pretty.

We saw a program on Peter Fitzsimon (spelling?) and he had lost 20kg by removing sugar from his diet - it is bad for us. I can imagine you must be feeling much healthier.

We are so lucky to have this in our back yards. I live on five acres of bushland surrounded by bushland. Thank you Jen for reminding me to make the time to enjoy what is all around me. I forgot! Your photos are gorgeous.

Hi Jen, what a glorious nature trail you shared with us. Your photographs are amazing, so clear and I so envy you living so close to such a beautiful landscape.

Congratulations on your new healthy lifestyle, it sounds as though it's paying off wonderfully (oooh, to be able to shop in the non plus size section!) Take care xx

Kudo's to you to have the tenacity and the determination to get up early every morning to go walking. There are so many wonders out there to be seen when you hit the trail. My name is faye and I live in Louisiana. My husband and I love to hike and spy on nature. I have become a follower so that I can pop in often.

P.S. Congratulations on you weight loss!!! Go Girl!!!

Hi Jenxo, lovely to come along on your walk with you. Beautiful native plants...I love when they all start coming out.
Well done dropping two sizes (I am envious...my will power has gone and left me these days!!!).
You are an inspiration...I will try and walk more and eat better too. I am sure I will feel better for it too.

I love to see your wonderful spring growth...especially since winter has set in here in my part of the world. And way to go with the walking. I too try to get a walk in every day. It makes a huge difference in my day!
